LR "Best Photos" Tool - First Thoughts & Suggestions

Thoughts so far

  • good idea, but not sure who its for
  • need more control on how it works
    • should be able to "weight" (or even turn off) all of the criteria it uses, not just people
    • should include a “quality” criterion
    • a simple scripting language or menu driven 'rule builder' for more complex criteria; basic goal is to allow inclusion (in “best”) something along these lines:
(‘highest quality’) OR (‘at least medium quality’ AND ‘best content’)
  • need the same flag / create album options for the “other photos”
  • must sync back to LR Classic (desktop) – better yet just incorporate right into Classic
I got to it via the web preview option under Share ... but it seemed to be kind of a one way street
  • how about a ‘worst photos’ also
  • maybe add a new flag just for this purpose ‘best / average/ worst’  (ok 'average' isn't quite right, but nor is 'other' in this context
  •  I haven't checked yet but I think it looks like the "best" album that is created is a static clone; not sure what happens if changes are made to the original collection or the images therein

and we need think how this fits into workflow.  (Mine is:  process images; tag rate and organise collections/albums; share).

Is this a for real suggestion or idea? Need more info on how you propose to make choices. In theory I like the idea but would like to have so.e control of methodology used and a veto for individual selections but then that would defeat purpose of automating the choices now wouldn't it? Finally, I can't even get the face recognition to work or does it only work for LR cloud?

This is comment on what Adobe had implemented at this point, so I guess its real, not just an idea!  Or do I misunderstand your question.

Yes, Id like more info on their algorithms too!

[I got there by  Lightroom CC Links/View on Web/Your Lightroom Photos/ ... select the album ...
More Actions / Best Photos ]

Face recognition is a whole 'nother issue.
