Lightroom Classic 8.0: Screen goes black with Local Adjustment Brush

LR 8.0 worked well at the start, several weeks ago.  But now it is not!  When using adjustment brush to edit an image the screen sometimes goes black and at top "not responding".  Also has become very slow when using the adjustment brush.  Updated graphics card driver, but same whether checked or unchecked in LR.  Talked with Adobe support and they had me optimize catalog only.  Still the same.  Today I uninstalled then reinstalled LR no change.  It is at a point where it takes way too much time to now use.      Need help!

Deleted the previews.  My previews are set at 2048 - high.  Although my screen is - BenQ SW2700 (2560x1440@59Hz).

I am running into the same frustrating problem on LR 8.3.1.

This problem makes Lightroom unusable. I noticed the problem recently. I've been using LR for years without incident.

My computer far exceeds the minimum system requirements.

I'm running a HP Omen loaded  64-bit Windows 10 machine with the NVIDIA GeFore CTX 965m video driver I have 32 RAM.

I will go to the NVIDIA website and update my video driver, I have already tried unchecking the GPU in the Performance tab.

If support has a list of items to troubleshoot, please point me to the document. This issue is so bad that I no longer am able to use the local adjustment brush which is a key tool of this product set.

Thanks,

I found that when I did not maximize  LR window 100% and only manually expand the window the problem stopped.  I found that somewhere on the internet, but forgot where.

I have the same problem. I am using Lightroom Classic 8.4.1 on a brand new Mac Mini. This only happens when in LR, and only when trying to use the Adjustment Brush.

I click the Adjustment Brush and as soon as I bring the mouse over the image area, the screen goes black and stays that way. When I push the mouse forward where it would be beyond the image, the screen comes back. Rinse and repeat until I just deselect the tool.

I have a Wacom tablet installed and connected, but I am not using it when this happens. Even if I disconnect that tablet, I get the same issue. So, I'm not sure its Wacom related, but I haven't uninstalled the software / drivers for it as a test.

If you disable the GPU in Preferences>Performance, do you still see the issue?

Wow! That totally resolved the issue... I'll play around a bit more, but before I couldn't use the Adjustment Brush at all. Now it appears to operate normally.

Thank you for your help!

Check your Video Card manufacturer for an update that might allow you to click that back on.
