Lightroom: Loss of Access to Folders After Certain Date

I'm still using LR v4.4. Was working fine, but now cannot see any folders after 17th Oct 2015 (there were at least 50 folders since that date up to 2 weeks ago). All the later folders are on my desktop hard drive, visible in Windows Explorer, so not lost just cannot see them in 'Library'.

Paul,

Can you please update Lightroom version to 6.10 and let us know if you still face the same issue?
Please let us know which OS version you are using?

Hi Mayuri, Thanks but I don't know how to update to 6.10 - do I have to buy a new CD from a Supplier and upload it? Our OS is Windows 7.

**Actually now sorted by Rikk by File>Open Recent and choosing one of 2 other catalog options. I'd still like to know how to update from v4.4 though.**

Regards, Paul

Paul, there's no free update from 4.4.  You'd have to buy a new version - either Lr 6 or a Creative Cloud (CC) subscription.

I'm not going to stir up a debate about the pros & cons of each here.  You'd have to do the research and determine which best fits your needs.  Here are some places to start, if you're interested...

Yeah, you're missing out on lots of new goodies by hanging onto 4.4, but there's also something to be said for sticking with what's working for you.
Best of luck.

v4.4 is pretty ancient, so I'm going from memory here, but you still should be able to get your missing folders to show up by using Synchronize Folders.

In the Folders panel, right click on the folder one level above the missing folders and click Synchronize Folder.  From there, you'll get a dialog box that gives you a count of images Lr finds new & missing.  Check the Import new photos checkbox and click OK.

If I'm missing the mark, some more explanation with a screenshot of what you see in the Lr Folders panel & a screenshot of Windows Explorer would be helpful.

Hi Tom, Dialog box didn't state number of missing images and of 3 tick box options, 2 were greyed out (Import new photos and Remove missing photos) leaving only 'Scan for Metadata Updates' already ticked and 'Syncronize' or 'Cancel' options to choose at the bottom. Sorry, but don't know how to do screenshots!

**Actually now sorted by Rikk by File>Open Recent and choosing one of 2 other catalog options. Thanks for your time and advice though.**

It sounds like you have opened on old backup of your catalog from 10/17/2015 instead of your current production catalog. Go to File>Open Recent and see if one of the catalogs listed there shows your more current folders.

Hi Rikk, Bingo. There were 3 different catalogs and 2nd time lucky, I got the right one! Why would there be 3? Can I delete the other 2 somehow or is that risky? Thanks very much for this advice. Perhaps I'd better think about upgrading from v4.4, although sounds like there'll be a cost for doing this and no idea how to!? Regards, Paul

Deleting the other two? It depends upon where they came from and how regimented your backup procedures are.  If you make a fresh backup, you likely won't need these but that is a judgement call on your comfort level.
