Lightroom: Losing original capture date

Why is the original capture date/time gone after exporting jpegs out of lightroom? I have always used a PC and never had this problem, but since switching to a MAC I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. The minimize metadata box is NOT checked. All the other info is there such as camera, f-stop, shutter speed...just not the original capture date. The date shown is when the image was exported. Why? Is there a way to keep the original date? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

The EXIF field "Date/Time Original" should have the original capture date. The rendition you create from the original will have a File Modification Date/Time set to the current time. The Create Date field will also be the date that the original image was created.

It really depends on how you are looking for this data. But if you use EXIFtool, it is there.

There might be a plug-in or post-export process out there that can touch the file mod date on the actual file back to the original date.

BTW, Friedl's Metadata Wrangler plug-in can set the File Mod date on the rendition to the original image date.

Very useful plug-in.
