Lightroom mobile: Losing thumbnails when restoring iPad from backup

After restoring my iPad from a backup the thumbnails in grid view have all disappeared. I can only guess which picture which, and find out after I tap it to open it in loupe view. The full resolution files appear to all be present - how did the thumbnails disappear? Wouldn't the iPad backup have copied EVERYTHING from Lightroom mobile (i.e. thumbnails, smart previews and full res files)? The thumbnails appear again if I edit the picture in some way, but I can't do a minor edit on every photo on my entire synced library to see the thumbnail previews...

Because everything is in the cloud, the easiest solution may be to uninstall LRM and then install it again. Log LrM into your CC account again, and LRM should start synching everything to your iPad, thereby restoring all your thumbnails too.

Thanks Johan, but since the sync is so painfully slow (I am travelling), the newest collection of photos only exists on the iPad - if I delete LRM I will delete all those files (and, more importantly, the edits) with it, so that's not going to work. And I couldn't possibly download all the other photos again, I would be stuck in wifi for days.

I have left the iPad to sync overnight at a decent internet spot with a decent upload speed (2,4 MBit/s Upload, this is the best I've had access to in 10 days), and the upload count went from 1100 to about 630. And the sync still says 12%...
