Lightroom: Locate missing files sometimes doesnt work

Lightroom is slow to move files between folders and sometimes we forget to move them in Lightroom. Normally locating one file in the new folder is enough for Lightroom to manage to find the other files nearby. However there are cases where it simply fails to locate them and removing them from the catalog and reimporting is the only solution.

One case is where the same photo is in the 'old' and the 'new' folder - the search for missing photos seems to stop in this case, even if there are others moved from the 'old' to the 'new' folder and which have not been reconnected yet.

I also have another case which I cannot relink the photos other than one at a time but I cannot work out why although I think it is related to the folder having the same name but different path to the old folder. If I move the files from the 'new' folder to a folder named 'test' then LR3.4 and 4 relink the photos automatically after the first manual link. If I move them back to the 'new' folder it cannot do the automatic linked after many manual attempts.

Looks like it still does not work in what is now know as Lightroom Classic.
