Photoshop: Liquify Tool - black pixels after edit (macOS Mojave 10.14.0 & 10.4.2)

Just updated my Mac to Mojave today.

Liquify is creating black pixels when used.

I have tried to optimize performance but I still get the same error.

I have a super fast machine, so is not a RAM error. Liquify was working normally before Mojave OS.

In the image below, I have slightly adjusted the smile of the subject.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled 'Digital' Black specks on photos appearing.

I'm starting to get what looks like black dots showing up randomly in the latest Photoshop CC. In the most recent cases after using liquify.
Any clues?

installing mojave update 10.14.1 has fixed this issue for me... though 10.14.2 apparently brings this issue back, so stick with 10.14.1 for now:)

After using the liquify tool to change the size of eyes or mouth it leaves little ink spots all over the face. I am using cc 2019 on a mac.

See above -- if you upgrade to the current version of the Mac OS (10.14.1) it will resolve this issue with liquify.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Fluidify problem with Mac OSX Mojave and Graphic Acceleration.

If i use the fluidify strument, with the graphic acceleration enabled on my Mac Book with Mojave installed, after the modify, i can see on my image some pixel problems, but if i disable the graphic acceleration, the problem there isn't.

What i can do?

In the image, in the red circle and where there are the arrows, the problems, that you can see in other place of the image too.

After applying liquify, my image layer has blue and black pixel looking squares all around where I used the liquify tool. My photoshop is up to date. Anyone know how to fix this?

Same here... updated to 10.14.2 Mojave (iMac retina 5K late 2014) I missed updating to 10.14.1 as I didn't realise this problem existed... I now have 30 edits to do and this pixel issue is making life really difficult..

Turn out « Use graphic processor » in Photoshop preferences, in « Performances » panel.
It's a temporary solution, you lose the ability to have a preview of cursor... Waiting after Adobe or Apple to get out this problem... Grrrrr...

Thanks Oliver, I did try this but it seemed to slow everything down... so frustrating. Normally I don't update Mac OS until months after release.. now I remember why!!

Hi Guys,

I am experiencing same. 10.14.0 was with lots of bugs. Holding Option+liquify solves problem disabling GPU then it works but very slow and not responsive as it should be.
10.14.1 solved Liquify except everything else.
10.14.2 not beta! Partially solved brushing problems, still persist artefacts on mask and liquify problem again.

here is my PS system info:

This issue is back with the macOS 10.14.2 update. See details and workarounds here: Black artifacts on image after using the Liquify filter

We're working with Apple to address this issue: Photoshop: Liquify bug is back in Mojave 10.14.2

I do appreciate that apple is working on it as it suppose to be, but Mojave shouldn't be let it out before they are sure it is fixed, especially on their own products is issues all over. It is first serious one which affected me and made me suffer in certain circumstances.
Thanks
Julius

I hope the problem will be resolved quickly. It is really annoying. All the more so that I can not go back to 10.14.1 (retailer did upgrade from 10.14.0 directly to 10.14.2)

Also the clone stamp is not working properly when trying to fix the pixels by hand. This is really annoying and time consuming.

I have the similar problem but with blue and cyan artifacts... first time I've ever seen it but don't know the last time I used it with this OS.  It seems I can clone them out? Is that a quick fix as well? If I see them on the screen, they WILL show on a print, correct? Not like guides that can be turned on and off? It also seems to be showing a before and after liquify trail... I can match up the pixels/artifacts.

You can use a free program called Kext Beast best to use version 2.0.1 to install all the Mojave 10.14.1 AMD kexts from System/Library/Extensions copied from a Mac with 10.14.1 to repair the damage 10.14.2 redid!

Adobe decided to remove my post from the forum probably because I mentioned another program? But this works! You just use the program to put 10.14.1 AMD drivers that worked back into your 10.14.2 system so you dont need to roll back the entire system but just the drivers.

Should work for all builds that had a working liquify tool on 10.14.1 that have the artifacts returned in 10.14.2. And I tested it on My 2013 MacPro.

Here a dropbox link with the 10.14.1 kexts you need.
Put all 20 of them on the desktop not just the folder or it wont work ok.

We have to downgrade to High Sierra as AMD Fire PRO GPU on mac pro bugs after update 10.14.1(which was solved) since we tried updates 10.14.2 and 10.14.3, different Kext manipulations etc. Nothing worked... Shame. I found without OpenCL it worked faster than with it on 2 GPU's crazy.
Now have build 10.13.6 and it is decent.

End of the story until the next one. Hope NOT.

You probably did something wrong with the kext as reinstalling 10.14.1 AMD drivers restores functionality. Let me know what you tried so I can tell you how to do it successfully.

actually, it worked, but the second monitor was not working via HDMI and messed up with Kext and OpenCL was always switched off as it was not recognized the second monitor. So we had to take the downgrade.

That probably had to do with the permissions not being correct that would make it buggy.
Not sure if your IT guy used the same program or version of that to install or just tried drag and drop ;-)

As I am on a single monitor I can not test that so it could also be a incompatibility with the older driver in the newer system. Thanks for at least trying :-)

Ok Julius I found out that you need to disable SIP for it to work or possibly boot from an external drive to install the kext properly so maybe that was the issue. I already had SIP disabled for external graphics card use experiments so forgot that that could be an issue.

Mojave 10.14.3 non-beta has been released and as far as I have been able to check, liquify black pixels problem is gone!! Can anyone please confirm what I've already seen in my mid-2012 MacBook Pro with Photoshop 19.1.7? Can we say Eureka??

May be true the fact about the AMD graphics because my MacBook Pro has Nvidia and Intel Graphics. I've also tested liquify with no flaws on 2018 Mac Minis with Intel UHD Graphics.

I've just updated my OS to Mojave 14.3 on my Mac Pro with an AMD Radeon HD7950 3Mb and the black pixels are definitely still there. It only started appearing with Mojave 14.2, prior to this I had no such problem. Please, please can we find a solution to this? By disabling graphics processor in preferences, it slows this up so much and also disables face aware liquify!

It's not a great solution but you can still use face aware liquify if you turn your layer into an intelligent object, then liquify and click ok. Artifacts appear. Then after that re-enter the liquify intelligent filter by double clicking it with option / alt pressed. This will disable the graphic processor without affecting the liquify results. After that you just have to click ok in the liquify dialogue and the artifacts will disappear maintaining the changes made before. I don't know if I've explained this well

Just look at my posts and you will find a fix that will work untill this will finally be  resolved. It involves a minor extension hack but it will take like 5 minutes so much less then downgrading. Or silly workarounds.

I've tried KextBeast but nothing happens. The "old" (10.14.1) Kexts remain on my desktop after the install and the (10.14.3) Kexts stay put in the system/library/extension folder.

Did you direct it to the right Drive and folder System/Library/Extensions as I believe that is not the default setting.
The kext should stay on your desktop as they get copied not moved so that is normal.
And have you tried after reboot if it worked?

I have SIP disabled so maybe that is a prerequisite for successful install.
You could try that too or install from a different drive so the drive you want to change is not the boot drive.

You can disable SIP when you boot from recovery partition and type in teminal app: csrutil disable "and then hit return" and then reboot. You can check in your system report if it worked.
Here is mine were you can see it is disabled.
It's the same thing you need to do to run external graphics cards on a mac pro.

Yepp, I directed them to S/L/E and rebooted. (Tried it three times) The kexts in the Extensions folder remain the same (the latest). I have not tried disabling SIP. I'm not used to messing around in Terminal.

Ok but have you tried liquify? And did KextBeast say successful install?
And if you are uncomfy with terminal have you tried to do it on another system drive then the current bootdrive? As maybe that might work without SIP disabled..

Yes, it said successful Install (green checkmark). And I've tried Liquify in both CC 2018 and CC 2019. Still get the black dots. I'm now running 10.14.3 - can it be that Kextbeast isn't compatible with the latest OS update?

Ok super! I tried to install 10.14.3 on my extra drive but it refused as it was still hfs formatted so it was taking a long time to test for me :-P But great that you confirmed that it can work in 10.14.3 aswell :-) And this might also work with SIP enabled if you startup from an external drive and then use KextBeast on the internal drive.

i found a little tricky tip to avoid this bad thing:
try to use your liquify with gpu enabled as usual and hit ok, undo 1 step and open the liquify from top menu while press ALT key (this for disable gpu in liquify tool), load last mesh and you will not have the ugly black dots

Just updated to the latest Mojave 10.14.3 and the Liquify tool creates black and blue greek-roman pixels all around! HELP!!!! S.O.S

I'm on PS since 7.0 so .... come on what the hell is going on? You new generation of coders and engineers just takes for granted the most memorable tool on PS as if if wasn't a big deal?

Hi, I found this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-and-macosmojave.html#Blackartifactsonimageafterusingt...) but not mention about CC2019? I still have same Liquify bug on CC 2019, anyone can help??

If I Disable the Use Graphics Processor, Mac will popup me "Your system has run out of application memory". Adobe, please solve and update photoshop ASAP, it is really annoying. Increase my workload and Speed down my project progress....
