Could there be an option to show all layers as a backdrop without including current working layer?

i.e. I compress a raster shape and it reveals any details of layers underneath. Currently it would reveal a copy of itself, and then all layers below.

Having it obey the layer hierarchy would be great - an option to show and be obfuscated by layers above the active one.

Ultimately, having Liquify act as a tool and not a filter would improve user experience. Like an much improved version of the smudge tool.
