liquefy breaking when starting from lightroom 5 via external editing

We have creative cloud and lightroom 5. we're trying to use liquefy in photoshop CC to take out a double chin in some bridal portraits. we've already edited the shoot in lightroom and we'd like to do the detail work in photoshop now like we always do. when we 'edit in photoshop CC' from lightroom the photo loads into photoshop, but when we use the liquefy tool the entire image goes red, and we can't cancel out of the liquefy. we had to shut everything down and start over. I can 'edit in' CS3 and liquefy without any problems.

Update: I just changed 'compression' in the external editing menu from ZIP to none, and it seems to be working now, but its merged the history between images. I have 2 photos in photoshop CC that i opened via 'edit in' from lightroom 5 and the liquefy that i applied to the first image shows up in the history of the second image as well.

We're very confused. Please help. Liquefy is the main reason we use photoshop.
