Ligthroom Classic: Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file

After returning an image from PS to LR and doing some further editing I then want to return to photoshop but LR just tells me: "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file... it will not be opened"
Files from PS are saved as PSD when returning them to LR and if I go in the folder the original and the PSD are both there. What further bothers me is that I can open the PSD  in PS and all the layers are there but for some reason, LR cannot open it.
All my images are stored on external HDD and their directory hasn't been changed.

P.S. After restarting my computer lightroom was able to open the PSD files back in PS.
Do I seriously need to restart it every time?

No, Lightroom cannot open PSDs natively, and will never be able to.

You don't say Mac or Windows?

Hmmm...not sure what you mean.  You can definitely work with PSD files inside of Lr.

But not with layers, so it’s not the same.

Never said they were the same.  Only pointing out that your "Lightroom cannot open PSDs natively" statement is incorrect and has nothing to do with the OP's stated issue.

Does that mean it happens every time? Lightroom can definitely work with PSD files (but if you edit such a file and then send it back to Photoshop as a copy with Lightroom adjustments, then it will be flattened). I have never seen this error message you mention, and you should not have to restart your computer. But if it happened only once and not again after restart, then the restart seems to have solved the problem.

This issue occurs on a Windows 10,
It seemed to be fixed after a restart as I have said previously, however it just happened again.
Right after returning to LR from PS, I decided to test it and tried to open the PSD but yet again it is giving me the same message...
Read and Write permissions have been enabled.

It is possible that I am doing something wrong in the process of going back and forth between the two programs.

Thank you for your responses, however, the issue still remains..
