Lightroom: Subfolder selection during Import

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the place to post it, but I would like to submit and idea for a new feature for any of the possible upcoming updates of LR4.

I was reading the idea from another blogger or user (Tom) regarding import filters and sorting, but in my case I would even like a way to select from which sub-folders I wish the import to happen and I normally do not want to import all of the pictures. This way the import grid will have less quantity of pictures or photos to accept, select or uncheck.

Tks and appreciate any help on how to properly set this request.

Good idea. I use a different approach:

* Import everything.
* Use lib filters etc...
* Delete the unwanted.

Granted, this is only a satisfying solution if you have a high ratio of wanted/un-wanted.

Begs the question: why don't you want to import some photos. - this is not a challenge (I'm not trying to deflate your 'Idea'), but knowing such might help the designers to better serve...

In the mean time, consider Ottomanic Importer's 'Import Folders and Files' feature, which could have been called "Import using OS folder/file chooser" - you can then use the search filter and column sorters of your OS (Explorer/Finder) to narrow down the selection before importing. You won't be able to see raw thumbnails in advance unless you have a special "TSR" loaded (TSR: terminate but stay resident, i.e. background service - a little thingy that knows how to extract thumbnails from raws).

Your way works, but once again it is more steps to do then needed. I was looking to keep things simple and quick if possible. If option never happens then I will survive without it.

In answer to your question it can be for many reasons, but they are a group of picture that I take and keep in a separate folder for other purposes.

I will try out your recommendation of Ottomanic Importer's it may help. I does have a lot lot lot more options than I need (my need was a very small one) but I will try it anyway.
