Lightroom starts and gives "An error occurred when attempting to change modules."

When I first started up LR 5 CC, it gave the message "An error occurred when attempting to change modules." Then nothing. The program didn't freeze exactly, but it is not possible to import images, change modules, or anything. I have restarted Lightroom, restarted my computer, and no matter what, I get the same message right after the splash screen. I am running OS X 10.8.5 on a new MacBook Pro.

What do I do now to make the program functional?

Solution 5 worked for me; only System could read and write and once this was corrected LR invited
Me to import files for the 1st time. I hope this is a permanent fix. Thank you very much. I borrowed my wife's MacBook Pro in place of my recently junked early MacBook Pro and I'm shooting on location beginning Sunday morning. Big, big help!

Did above. Program starting "new catalog" then same error appeared. This problem occurred after MacOS 10.9.3 update. Still unsolved

None of the fixes mentioned in the link above provided by Victoria seem to work for me either. OSX 10.8.5 - Still unable to import photos or use any feature of LR.

Does it work in a clean user account?

I even had someone in the community recommend clearing the SLCache but that did not work either.
