Collection synching / Lightroom Mobile is a great addition to Lightroom 5.4. Please extend this functionality to Smart Collections as well.

After reading about the new Lightroom CC I don't think that this feature will be implemented into Lightroom Classic anytime soon. Same for keyword synchronization.

Lightroom Queen Victoria Bampton wrote, "The [new] mobile apps continue to sync with Lightroom Classic, as they always have done, but no new cloud features will be added to Lightroom Classic, so keywords and collection sets don’t sync with Lightroom Classic."

She has long had an inside line to LR product developers and has a solid authoritative reputation, so I think this indicates that it's unlikely syncing smart collections between Classic and Mobile will ever be added.

As a  workaround, you can use the Any Source plugin to sync smart collections with regular collections and then sync those regular collections to LR Mobile.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Allow creation of "Smart Collections" in Lightroom Cloud..

Allowing smart collections to exist in the cloud has been the most-voted for feature request in the Lr-forums. So far, it's been blatantly ignored by Adobe. However, I believe it should be much easier to implement now that Adobe has upgraded the Lr-Cloud.

Adobe, please refer to the link below for the most requested idea for Lr in the last 4 years.
Thank you.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC - smart collections.

This is a real game-changer for work-flow. I don't understand how anyone can survive without smart collections and have an efficient and effective wok-flow - and it's missing from Lightroom CC.
For example, when I bulk rename images to include primary keyword and location (and I have many more examples) I have smart collections for images with incomplete keywording, incomplete location data, and for those which are complete but which have yet to be renamed. Having to do all that by hand would add hours to my workflow. So do you agree that smart collections (or albums) should make it across to CC?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Smart Albums & Compare View Necessary.

For Lightroom CC to be a valid option, it will need the ability to create criteria based Smart Albums (like Smart Collections in LR Classic), as well as the ability to compare photos side by side (like the Compare and Survey modes in LR Classic). Add these and I'm in. Without these the new app is a non starter.

Hi George,

I merged your request for smart collections with previous ones to give it more weight. To get your request for the ability to compare photos noticed create a separate request. Thanks for your input!

Cheers!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled smart albums pleeeeease....and filter photos not in albums..

smart albums please ! they are essential to my workflow! also the ability to view photos not in albums. Since coming from "classic" and a photo being stored in and actual folder, now they are virtual which is fine but I need to know which photos did not make it in an album. I am very careful to import photos into albums but seeing some did not make it in makes me feel very lost.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC: smart albums.

It'd be great if LR CC's albums had the ability to automatically add pictures/videos based on selected keywords. For example, I could setup an album named "My Dog", and it would automatically collect all pictures that I tagged with the name of my dog.

I am enjoying LR CC.  A solid V1.0 release.  If I could add one feature to LR CC it could be smart collection.  I use smart collections extensively in Classic. I'd be so happy to see them in CC
ThanksMonty

Sooner the better, its little bit "funny", that this Smart Collection sync feature does not already exist ;-)
Hopefully they soon sort this out...

In my usual desktop workflow I don't actually use Smart Collections - and rarely standard Collections - at all. Instead, I just go to a folder and filter my 'Flagged' images to work on.

The problem now that Lr Mobile is part of my workflow, is that if drag Flagged photos into a standard (dumb?) Collection and then Unflag them on the desktop, they won't automatically be removed from the collection on the mobile device.

Sorting through the images I want to work on later while I'm on the go is the primary reason for me using Lr mobile. I do very little actual editing on mobile.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC: Smart Albums and Compare Photos.

I wish I could use CC for the seamless cloud synching - BUT, until the features to create criteria based Smart Albums and the ability to compare multiple photos large side by side are added, Lightroom CC is a useless, but very promising app. These features are critical to efficient workflow and management. It's also the reason I can't use Apple Photos app, which allows smart albums but no comparison feature, and no preset edit saving - which CC can do. Still waiting for that simplified cloud based photo app to replace Lightroom Classic. So far there is none that has the feature set I need.

I totally agree with this request! There are so many reasons for syncing smart collections. Here is my main request:
I used to use a quick collection for keeping my « Best Ofs » but copying a picture LR mobile is a slow process (no B key) I therefore decides to switch to a 5 star rating smart collection thinking it would be usable on both platforms. But it’s not

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Sync from mobile: create folder based on collections name.

A typical workflow:
1) I import pictures on LR mobile (iPad Pro) (by the way, the only way to have 1:1 on mobile...
2) Put those pictures into the right collections
3) Pictures get synced onto my desktop
4) Collections have te right names but I still have to rename the folders where the pictures were downloaded.

Why could’t we have the option « same name as origin (mobile) »

Allowing to sync folder would also solve this issue, by the way!

If you're a little bit geeky, you can sync smart collections via a plugin. The plugin is "Smart-Collection Sync" by Jeffrey Friedl. It's free to try and it's donation-ware. I've been using Friedl's plugins for many years; They're well-done and updated regularly. I've paid anywhere from $5 to $20 for the plugins because I want to support his excellent work.

Smart-Collection Sync automatically copies a smart collection (which LR doesn't allow to be synced online)  to a regular collection (which can be synced).  It will also keep that regular collection synced with the smart one. Read all about it here: http://fave.co/2FcBV5A.

Definitely odd Lightroom CC doesn't have smart albums like more powerful software programs such as Apple Photos. Such as how else would you do common things such as show all images from a collection that are rated 5 stars etc.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Allow filters to apply to publicly shared albums.

I would love to be able to share an album publicly but have it only include photos that match a certain filter (like rated >3 stars). As of now, in order to do this I need to make a whole separate album for the photos I want to share and every event needs 2 albums.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled LIghtroom Classic: make Smart Collections really smart!.

It would make a lot of professionals' life easier by simply merging the function of Collections & Smart Collections. This way the Smart Collections can also be synched with mobile devices. At this point I have to do my selection through a Smart Collection and then copy the Smart Collection over to a Collection and let that Collection sync online so it can be viewed on my Apple TV/iPad... Another idea then would be to have the possibility to "lock" a certain (Smart) Collection one your photoset is complete & have the option op copying the (Smart) Collection and opening it up again for additional

I just want LR to sync my existing collection sets - do not care too much about Smart Collections.  Adobe need to add this feature ASAP.

Are there any add ons that can achieve this?

If this were implemented, I'd be able to publish smart collections that only contain "picks" to myportfolio.com and use that to host albums that I now host on SmugMug.

Yes. Please add the ability to sync smart collections to LR Mobile in Lightroom CC Classic.
