Lightroom: Separate locations for catalog and previews?

Feature request:

I'd like to be able to specify separate locations for my lightroom catalog and its previews.

Mostly because with over a million pictures, my catalog's getting pretty big.

I'd like to be backing up my catalog wirelessly, but don't want to waste time and bandwidth backing up previews whenever they're generated. So ideally would like to store those elsewhere, so that I can exclude them from the automatic backups.

[here I'm talking about backups using Time Machine on my mac, rather than or in addition to Lightroom's catalog backup function]

Ideally, I'd like to be able to do this in a way that is native to both Lightroom & the OS, without messing around with other apps to create symbolic links etc.

Is this a feature that'd be of interest to others?

Yes, I'd find that useful too.

As far as TM goes, go to System Preferences > Time Machine and press the Options button, bottom right. There you can exclude certain files/folders including the previews.
