Lightroom SDK : Keyword extraction

Hi,

Please add an option to the SDK to allow keywords to be extracted in the order in which they appear in the keyword editing area, not in alphabetical order. Some services prioritise keywords they receive, so the order in which they are entered can be important.

Cheers,
Jim

Not really just an SDK issue. Over the years a few people (Alamy contributors) have asked for manual keyword ordering.

Yes, I guessed! Enough self-promotion ;) Seriously, this should be available directly through the Keywording panel. If you want to do it via a plug-in, you could always copy the keywords data to a custom field, which the user could re-order, and then use a post processing step to overwrite the keywords in the exported file. You not doing this already?

Hi,

Yes, kind of doing that already. It still uses the LR keyword list as a master, so that you can use the hierachy and the existing tools. It will remove any words from their two extended keyword fields from the LR keyword list and then send the remainder as the least important keyword list. It still leaves the problem that the keywords aren't in the right order for that last list, and that the first time it's sent the KWs in the two more significant lists are also not in the right order.

Short version is that it shouldn't be hard to do and might just come in handy here and there.

Cheers,
Jim

Jim,

I might vote for this if I had any idea what you are talking about - extracted from what? which keyword editing area?...

Sorry for being dense,
Rob

I don't think "extracting" is the word - "exporting" would be better. When Lightroom writes keywords or displays them in the Keywording panel, it puts them in alphabetical order. But some stock agencies' search algorithms give greater weight to the first keywords. So the underlying request is for it not to do so (maybe the alphabetising code just needs commenting out?).
