Lightroom SDK: custom xmp hooks

I was just looking at the xmp spec, and noticed how nicely xmp supports custom metadata. - apps that read/write it will preserve stuff they don't understand.

Thus the Lightroom SDK could easily be extended to allow plugins to write the part of their custom metadata that makes sense, OR write other things to xmp that makes sense (e.g. computed values that are not necessarily saved as custom metadata).

That way Adobe does not have to try and have some kind of generic support for plugin metadata, but plugins could be in the loop whenever xmp is saved/read.

This along with full data-type support (need boolean, date-time, numeric, and maybe even binary) would just about bring custom metadata on a par with IPTC metadata...

If this customized xmp were available as sidecars for all file types and virtual copies, then we'd really be having things.

Thanks for considering,
