Lightroom: Resizing on export when it's not told to

Photoshop Lightroom 5.2 on OS X 10.8.5. When exporting full JPEGs from RAW files (CR2s from Canon 5D mark 1s) Lightroom will resize the images from 4396x2912 to 2560x1707. To resize option is disabled in the export dialog.

I worked around it by enabling resizing in the export dialog and by entering 4396 as the long edge. This is not ideal as I am worried that Lightroom is resizing down then back up and therefore losing detail in the image.

2560 is the size of a smart preview - there is probably a connection, although I don't know what yet - are the images you're exporting online? Are there smart previews available?

Ahh I have generated smart previews for this collection. I'll double check that the usb hard drive my RAWs are on is connected and that Lightroom still recognises that as the source of the files.

Yep! That was the issue!

I typically import my recent job to my laptop's internal hard drive to cull and rename photos using Photo Mechanic. I then copy the files over to the USB external hard drive and then import them to Lightroom and generate previews. This time around I imported and generate smart previews from my laptop's hard drive instead of the usb drive.

I updated the location of the photos in Lightroom and now it's exporting at full resolution.

Thanks for the nudge in the right direction!

If this is a regular occurence (you don't have to admit it in public ;-}), consider a protection plugin like Jeffrey Friedl's "Smart Preview Support" which assures you don't inadvertently export smart previews. Exportant also has a similar feature.
