I would LOVE to be able to move the panels in Lightroom in the order I use them most!

I agree that this would make a nice feature for LR. I have passed it on to the LR team.

I've been asking for this ever since they moved all the panels around in LR2. There are panels I never use that I would move to the bottom, and others (Like the Keyword list) that obscure everything else below them and therefore really must be at the bottom of the panel list. The LR team answer was that they moved panels to where the Newbies could understand them, and didn't want to allow people to screw that up for fear of people not understanding where their panels went... Please make this happen!

From what I've read to date, the chances of users being able to move panels from left to right and vice versa is a likely as seeing a pig fly. The reason being that there's a logic, even if you don't like/see it, to what goes on the left and on the right. I suspect that being able to move individual panels vertically within the same panel track is a request more likely to get a positive outcome.

I sort of buy this thinking from the team for the most part, but I'd still like to be able to choose the left panel/right panel location for the navigator and the histogram. I see very little workflow logic for any particular locations for those panels so to me, it's just a matter of managing screen real-estate.

I agree with Lee. There are lots of times that I love to have the Keyword list visible at the same time as the Title and Caption. Instead I end up scrolling up and down repeatedly. I realize that the team has decided that there is a logic to where the panels are, but there logic isn't the same as my logic. I'm not saying that they're logic is wrong, only that it's different...

Sean, you can hide panels you don't use (I'm pretty sure you know that). The keyword list is a pain, especially with flatter list.. I'd like to see something with better real estate for metadata, and I don't think movable panels will matter much with it.

Yes, I know that. I open and close panels all the time, and use Solo mode a lot (although not for the right side of the Library Module). But even still the ability to have my Keywords on the left and all other Metadata on the right still makes much more sense to me. And even more importantly, the ability to move my panels where I want them rather than where someone else thinks they logically fit seems to be a no-brainer...

Even at that I'd rather see a psuedo module ala import for metadata work, with the option of 2 copies of the keyword list for easier hierarchy arranging in exisiting keywords (for example).
I'm not knocking the idea of dockable panels, I'm just curious as to there being better ways to achieve what we want..

Having a separate Metadata module is an interesting thought. I definitely think that there could be a better way, but I surely don't know what it is. I mean we all know that what we have now is very good, I'm just looking for even better...

Yeah--IU'm not looking to move panels left and right, but rather up and down to move the ones i do not use lower in the list ...kinda to create a workflow that works for ME rather than the way Adobe thinks it ought to go.

I would take this a step further; a fully customizable interface like Premiere Pro is the way to go, IMO.

Personally, I dont care what order stuff is in: I learn where it is and use it there.
But, I sure would love to be able to relocate the panels on a secondary monitor so I could work on the images full-screen.
One thing to note: In Solo Mode, you can shift-click a section name to open a section without closing any others (Lee Jay taught me that).

or third screen. LR is about workflow productivity, allowing workspace customization will pay big dividends for many of us.

Big thumbs up to this request. Before I found this post, I had my own related request here: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...
To save you clicking the link, the point is this:
When in Library mode, if the 'Collections' menu on the left is closed (not currently displaying the collections), one cannot drag an image or images to the 'Collections' menu and hover to trigger the menu to open & show the collections and drop in these images. This is standard behaviour with such menus. Currently, we have to drop the image(s), go over to the 'Collections' menu , open it, then go back to the image(s) and place in the desired collection. What a bore. Would be grateful if you could fix this! Stephen

I'm left-handed and feel as if I'm always working in Lightroom with my hands crossed. I would like the ability to switch the left and right module panels. Making adjustments in the development module with my left hand on the left side of the screen would be much less awkward. Right now, the software appears to be designed by and for a right-handed person.

What currently bothers me the most is that in the develop module the Presets are across the screen from the actual develop settings. I'm wearing a hole in my desk swiping my mouse left and right as the workflow I follow is:
1 - Move the mouse to the left of the screen and pick the presets that get me close to what I want
2 - Move the mouse to the right of the screen to tweak what the presets have done
3 - Next image via keyboard, start back at step 1
That's a lot of moving back and forth, and on a larger monitor in fullscreen it gets old fast. It seems logical to me to have the presets and the actual develop settings the presets are modifying close to each other. I don't care where or how, just that they're close. I suppose if I used the snapshots and history more, the same would go for them. If all of these modify the develop settings, why are they so far away from the develop settings?

Whilst it is great that the R & L panels are viewable/hideable and you can choose which objects to show, I would like to propose a change of thinking.
If the current objects like: 'keyword list', 'keywording', 'folders' and 'navigation' were written as 'modules', both the L & R panels could be viewed as blank canvass which you could drag & drop those modules on either side, in any order. Why? you ask. Because we don't all have the ideal large screens and so screen space can sometimes be a premium and also with considerable thought, wordlists can become lengthy and being able to 'drag' the keyword list over to the left and being able to clearly view both would be highly beneficial.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled How about a customizable panel workflow for the develop module?.
I'd love to have the ability to change/customize the order of develop panels in Lightroom to match an individual workflow, like having first my lens corrections panel then the basic and so on. The suggested workflow is cool, but sometimes doesn't match my style of working, and it's cool that we already have the ability to hide some panels that seldom get used but, this feature surely could enhance my speed in post production.

This would be great. I just wish I could move the panel from the right side of my screen to the left hand side because I"m a lefty and it would make my work flow so much nicer...

You can switch off the others which do not use so often with a right click on the tool boxes and switch on again when you need them.

And also activate Solo Mode. Only one tool box is open at a time, so that the remaining tool boxes are much closer.

If Adobe is concerned with the logic flow or newbies getting confused, just add a reset button/menu option to reorder the panels if desired.
Also, I know this is not completely on topic, but it's related. One of my biggest frustrations is I frequently inadvertently click the little arrow on the right that hides the panel, when I'm just trying to scroll. The problem is that little arrow is actually a button the full height of the panel and it is too easy to click. Very bad design IMO and I'm curious if others have the same problem?
If the button was just the size of the arrow the problem would be fixed. A better idea is replace it with a little pin icon at the top like I see in so many other programs.
Little things are sometimes bigger than they appear.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Camera calibration should be at the top. That alone should be enough to let us sort the panels the way we want. Don't even need left/right. Just up and down on the right panel would be good

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom: Rearrange side panels/modules.
Capture One, the biggest competition to LR, allows the movement of side panels/modules. It would be great to rearrange the panels in develop mode mainly, but all side panels.
So in Develop, we can take Detail and move it up under basic.
Or move the collections above Folders in the Library Panel

I found this ancient thread but because it's not locked I'm going to join the crowd and state my desire for this functionality. Maybe if Adobe would acknowledge the number of people who took part in this conversation they would add this functionality. It amazes me that even after years and years of "suites" and software bundles, they still can't create a uniform user experience that is the same in all of their products. Why the heck movable panels are available in Premiere and Photoshop but not in Lightroom? Seems it's just an old oversight they are too lazy to fix.

Just a tip: Tell them you want it, don't tell them they are lazybones who could not care less about customers, etcetera. Somehow the latter may not be a real incentive to do something with a request... :)

"Lazybones" may not be a nice qualification, dear John, but it expresses customer's frustration and if you look at the facts, maybe you can't conclude they are "lazybones" regarding what these individuals do during daytome on the job, but there is a whole lot of arguments for a more objectiv bottom line: Adobe's self stated customer care in the last 5 (!) years since CC definitely not what you might expect from a premium brand. The outcome of the promise of "continous development" of especially these two products (Lr und Ps) is minimal and equals almost none.
I say this to you with a vast experience in customer care myself: if someone is using "bad language" on you, don't defend or pick up the counterattack. If there is smoke, there is fire ... The worst way to react, ist to play the offended victim. Which you are not... You are the powerful company that has put his rules upon customers that have no choice whatsoever as to "obey" you. That is what people drives nuts in almost every part of life, so here as well ...
As these applications were still for sale, every almost yearly update had mor new tools and develeopments to offer, then we've got over this half decade under CC. And if you look at the version overview that is a stone cold fact!
So the subscription model makes "lazy" in the head. It is a hard rule in business that a powerfull market leader doesn't care as much for R&D and customer satisfaction as the runners up. And that is what we see right now. There are some new kids on the block, working hard to develop a software that serves our purposes and yes ... in their strategy they put their fingers exactly there, where the Adobe user's frustration hurts most: no subscription models, a fair price, no fancy worldwide events, no hungry share holders - just the software ...
If Adobe expects me to pay for a lifetime subscription to use their software, in the end I have payed more than for every single suite I have bought in the past. And for what?? Some fancy stuff I didn't ask for, some bugs I have to take care of every single update?? That is a "chuzpe" if you know the word ...
You know, in the old days Abobe produced software I thought was worth every dime of it and it worked stable and smooth. Therefore, for pro users it was a self running system and there were most of the time no doubts, whether to buy the next upgrade. Today I got stuck in a subscription that brings me trouble all the time and offers me "developments" that obviously are not what most pro users want and need, but serve some amateur and hobbyist purposes, because that is where they (yet) get the money from ... The problem is: especially in this big group, some alternatives are getting ready to take Adobe's place, leaving them with their pro customers ...
Adobe forgets about their long time pro users that have payed a lot of money in the past to get the products where they were as the big cash party CC started ... It's not laziness. It's this same deadly combination of greed, hunger for power and money (Adobe has tax avoiding constructions as well) that right now is gettng out of control on the world market, like with Apple, Microsoft, Amazon .... You've got your customers tied up, so you can do with them as you like. We are no customers anymore but only the fuel that makes the money making machine run. And there is undoubtedly some arrogance in that attitude.
The same arrogance BTW I met when speaking to the support. I am a polite man and I was exhausted over all the trouble I had running the software properly on a well equipped, relatively common machine. The support desk was sending me of with the usual cliches and the man I spoke to treated my with a painfull arrogance, regardless the fact he was speaking to a pro user, with more then 20 years Ps-experience and over 30 years working with personal computers. No respect whatsoever for a customer that has spent roughly more then 10,000 bucks on their software over that period ... !
I think that is the frustration that goes behind the expression "lazybones" or yellow jackets on the streets of Paris ....

What is the use of this forum anyway, when ther is no reply whatsoever from the official side ...?
This particular item is asked for by many, many users over many, many years. It would make the workflow easier and that is what the highest goal should be here. Instead we get some fancy "creative profiles" we never asked for and that are nothing but a toy for the big amateur community out there...
People who take the trouble to write here are generally speaking the ones that are the most loyal hard core users. Not listening to and meeting their whishes is just a plain arrogance.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled LR Classic: User custom menu options - 2 parts.
Tear off (and individually resizable ?) menus so you can put your
sequence of operations one right after the other in some area of your
choice, like a second monitor. Solo mode is nice, hiding things you
don’t need is handy – but putting them somewhere else and in your own
order would be nicer.
Custom menu – where you can drag specific
functions into a shortened set so you’re not popping around the screen
endlessly. Include dragging individual presets there too.

The ordering of items in the Develop module implemented in 8.1 LR Classic CC is not what I'm talking about in the second part, it's a separate ability.

Yup - already used it. :) I see that request was something on the order of 7 years old now...
Thanks for commenting Rikk.
The second paragraph is in my mind a totally different use specific menu where you can chain commands in sequence, drag presets onto it and go a lot farther with automating something things which presets (as doing absolute values, not incremental) don't. Keypress sequences etc...

Happy to see that today's 8.1 roll-out provides at least the possibility to change the order of the development windows ... Finally after many years ... But still no undockable windows like in any other Adobe-app and in (upcoming) competitor's programs.

If I look back on the last 2 years only, I must conclude, apart from from camera updates and bug fixes Lr (and Ps as well) didn't develop whatsoever. What about the promise Adobe made back in 2013 that CC customers would be offered "continous development"??
To me it seems Adobe has eliminated the R&D department for Lr and Ps completely ...
Not even customer wishes regarding the UI are looked after anymore like:
- undockable windows:
- reordering panels (this idea);
- color adjustments with the local adjustment tools;
- scalable UI graphics and fonts;
- and so on ...
Any other software supplier is offering that kind of tools for a fair one time price. Adobe just seems to collect month after month serving their share holders without offering anything that would even make a one time upgrade licence worth the money. No wonder a lot of my colleagues are still working with CS6. Although I am sure you will find a way to force them into subscription over time as well.
This is no way to get your customers satisfied!
I was one of the first to join CC looking forward to years of being the happy user I was ever before. But now the only thing we get is updates with bug fixes, bringing in new bugs again, forcing us to spend a lot of time not being able to do our core business.
And Lightroom getting slower and slower in the meanwhile. I still use it, being familiar with it so much, but my customer satisfaction is rapidly decreasing.
