Every so often, Lightroom loses files. I am currently using Lightroom 4, but this is not a new problem. I usually discover this problem because the number of files light room reports is off. For instance, if I tell it to select all, the number of files selected, may be less that the total number of files. Most recently I discovered a problem when I selected a group of files using a text filter. I later created a smart collection using the same word that I had used with the text filter. I then noticed that the smart collection had two more files than what I could get using the text filter. I could see the extra files in the smart filter, but no matter what I did, even turning of all filters, I could not see those photos in the normal grid view, only in the smart collection. I was able to remedy the situation by removing the two problem files from the folder they were in, then telling Lightroom to find missing photos. It would tell me that the photos I had moved were missing. I then put back the photos and once again told Lightroom to look for missing photos. It found the two and now I can see them in the grid view. I have know idea why Lightroom loses photos like that, but it happens often enough that I think there is a bug in the program.
