When you only can use jpgs and png files, its impossible to use transperant watermarks - that could be solved with a "Overlay" layer style option

PNG Supports transparency. Or, am I misunderstanding you?

Even if I use a transparent PNG it still renders a transparent background as white.
This is how a transparent image appears in Photoshop using the "Normal" layer. If you use "Overlay" you'll get the transparent look.

Try with my enclosed watermark.
