In versions t want to export the all caps keyword, but I may have (car, automobile, etc.) as synonyms that I do want to export.

It would be great to have that capability back!

Just to be sure this doesn't go unnoticed, that other thread has numerous detailed examples and suggestions on how to deal with this issue.

If I can make sense of that first sentence, this is just asking to have back the bug referenced in the other thread. Maybe explain this request in a bit more detail? What for instance is "the all caps keyword"?

I wanted to edit the original post, but I must be missing the button. I use all caps keywords for organization only, usually preceded with an " * " to make them sort at the top of the keyword list. I have probably 60 organizational keywords, then a hierarchy under them. What I would love to be able to do however, is have synonyms exported from the organizational keywords even though the keyword itself does not. Example " *AUTOMOBILE " is at the top of the hierarchy, but "automobile" is a synonym of it. I want the synonym to export.

Why not just use automobile instead of *AUTOMOBILE? Because you need to control the sorts with special characters mainly.

Yes, I appreciated you might want to edit it. Do you mean the synonyms that are in the Edit Keyword dialog? I think it would be very confusing if you have a keyword that is set not to export, but its synonyms do. Do you really mean synonyms in LR terms, or child keywords?

Yes, the synonyms in the Edit Keyword dialog. I'm referring to synonyms in LR terms. Child keywords I choose when I'm doing my key wording.

Maybe it IS too confusing (although it never bothered me), hence my suggestion for option #2 in the post below, which gives you the best of both worlds including a better sorting mechanism.

Yes, that's something like I suggested in the previous thread - a "Keyword Group".

Jay: I think it would be pretty easy to implement actually, in one of two ways:

1. Reverse to the funcitionality it had before, but leave the synonym options enabled to allow people to choose if they want it to export synonyms or not after choosing to not export the main keyword.

2. Make another type of keyword type: "heirachy" for example. You could add the option in the same dialog and it would have the function of automatically not exporting but still have the choice of exporting synonyms or parent keywords.

Option #2 would actually be a better feature since the keyword list could then sort all hierarchy type keywords at the top, which would keep us from having to add " * " or something in front of the word to make it sort at the top.

The "synonym" issue is really quite simple.

1) Allow the check box to remain active (i.e. not greyed out) regradless of the status of "export keyword" - solves our problem,

2) On new KW's default "Export Synonyms" it to "unchecked" - solves issue of privacy since a user would need to take an explicit action to have synonyms exported when main keyword is not

3) On catalog conversion from LR3 to LR4, if "export kw" is off and "export synonyms" is on, turn off the "export synonyms" produce a pop up asking whcih way the user wants to go with it - including a "apply this choice to all" option.

This feature change is a fundamental problem for me. I want my keywords to export exactly as they did. I spent quite a bit of time making my keyword hierarchy produce what I needed, exactly what I needed.

Could we please have a general option "Legacy keyword hierarchy functionalities" ?

Adobe, you cannot simply leave this as it is.

I'd really like to see an option for "Legacy Keyword Hierarchy/Synonym Behaviour".
When I discovered the (LR3) behaviour I thought it was a really cool feature!

I used a number of aliases to apply keywords and am definitely missing the option of exporting synonyms without the actual keyword.

For example : keywords that made easy to remember sense to me but were not the "official" name of clients, organisations, locations, animals, etc.
