Lightroom: get rid of sliders. They're rubbish

Something like this you can click on any part of it to move it. It much less fiddly and it gives you the value as well as a visual representation of where its at (you could couple this with a colour scale on the dial). The white bar above shows you where the value is in the available range and can be dragged for large adjustments.

Finally lets put some logic in the modifier and arrow keys.
eg
Shift drag, shift arrow = 5x standard
ctrl drag, ctrl arrow .5x standard

Arrow keys raise value by the smallest increment available, not by a standardised increment. If you want coarser control bring alt into play, so that ctrl-alt arrow qives you 10 or 20x smallest increment.

However you need to minimise people moving from mouse to keyboard. So get them modifier keys working with the mouse. Current system is s mess: I have to use my mouse to click on the value to change value by 1 increment.

You are aware that the box containing the numeral to the right of the slider is a large scrubbing control? Scrubbing and holding down the shift key gives you 10X control. The slider control point gives you your visual indicator.

yes :)

its the fine control that is more problematic. Besides having the control and the value combined is what this is about.

Isn't the keyboard for fine control? You can also expand the panel to its max width to get finer granularity. Perhaps it is the pointer device you are using that is contributing to the problem, if only because I don't have a problem tweaking the sliders 1-2 points even though most of the controls don't actually require such precision.

My mouse is fine. You cant imagine that something could be better than the current system?

fine and gross control should be available from both mouse and keyboard. Having to swap from one to the other is a usability Snafu.

My panel is open wider than in this screengrab. This system combines the movement and the value readout so that your eye does not need to travel to the value as you adjust it. That way you really can increment a value without taking your hand off the mouse or your eye off the slider/value.
