Lightroom: Crashes when entering develop mode

I just intalled Lightroom 3.2 on my Windows XP laptop, a Dell Latitude D630. After installing, it recommended updating, which I did, to 3.4.1. When I first started it and loaded a jpeg image, it crashed once I hit "Develop".

I then removed Lr and reinstalled 3.2 (not the update to 3.4.1), and it keeps crashing whenever I select Develop, doesn't matter if a foto is imported or the filmstrip is empty.

I don't get a crash report, Lr just exits.

My system info:
Lightroom version: 3.2 [692106]
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Version: 5.1 [2600]
Application architecture: x86
System architecture: x86
Physical processor count: 2
Processor speed: 1.9 GHz
Built-in memory: 2038.0 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 716.8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 67.7 MB (9.4%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 49.3 MB
Memory cache size: 0.0 MB
System DPI setting: 96 DPI
Displays: 1) 1280x1024, 2) 1440x900
Serial Number: [removed it before posting]

My Screen is a Samsung SyncMaster 940B, I'm using extended desktop (but not for Lr).

I found a similar bug report here, but don't have the mentioned driver installed. I have no ideas how to trouble shoot. Would be awesome if somebody can help,I bought new software and it crashes right away before I even got cracking, that's quite sad Mr. Adobe.

Thanks much,

Why are you not running Service Pack 3 with your Windows XP? That is part of the system requirements for running Lightroom 3 (

Hi Brett,

Thanks for your reply. I don't know what the offending process or setting was, but after a number of reboots last evening, it's working now. I'll ask my IT to install SP3 to prevent crashes in the future.
