Lightroom/Camera Raw: Eliminate possibility for missing or dissociated profiles.

Profile info is presently stored in dcp files only (non-DNG users). Photos reference profiles by name. This opens the door for the possibility that a photo will be left profile-less.

Present handling of missing profiles is silent reversion to a default!!!

One possible solution is to store profile info in the catalog, and xmp. Its one of the most critical develop settings of a photo and should not be subject to getting lost. This 'Idea' was motivated by problems with camera calibration profiles, but applies to lens correction profiles as well (both DNG and non-DNG users).

So, this Idea is to solve the problem somehow, even if my idea of a possible solution could be machine-gunned to death by a shrewd gunner...

As a workaround for people who've had problems with missing or dissociated profiles (or just want to check whether there are any problems/reversions that they don't know about...) - AdvancedColorEditor has a feature to compile a list of all referenced profiles that are missing, and DevMeta allows you to see which photos reference which profiles (whether missing or not...). This combo makes it simple to detect, and correct...
