Lightroom adjustment settings when switching between tools

A problem I constantly struggle with in Lightroom has to do with switching back and forth between Graduated Filter and Adjustment Brush. For whatever reason, when I use one tool, then switch to the next, the same settings are carried over. This is frustrating because I often use the Graduated Filter to darken a sky, then the Brush to lighten certain elements in the scene. I wish the tool remembered the setting I had used with it last, not the setting on a different tool I was using.

On a similar note, it would be very helpful to selectively erase parts of the layer mask of a Graduated Filter similar to the erase tool with an Adjustment Brush. Often times I want darken a sky but not the building or tree that is in the same space.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Feature Request: LR CC Individual Tool Settings.

As a professional photographer who uses LR every day as part of my workflow, there is one singular aspect of the program which constantly vexes me... That is - whatever your last setting is using a tool, whether the Gradient Filter, Radial Filter or Adjustment Brush, is the setting saved when opening the other tool.  Why not leave each tool's last setting where it was set, and not governed by the other tools?  It makes no sense.

Generally if I am editing large batches of images, I will use the tools in a repeated way - lets say a Brush with positive exposure for dodging, and the gradient with negative exposure for taking down the sky, for example.  So every time I switch between those tools, which is constantly, I'm re-setting those sliders every time.

Unless there is a preferences setting I'm unaware of, it would seem to me as if the default should be to leave each tool settings as the last used by that specific tool.  If this is a re-hashed issue, my apologies, or if there is a setting I'm missing, I'd love to know about it!  Thanks!

Thanks for merging these topics.  However, I see the OP posted this 4 years ago so clearly this hasn't become an option since then.  It would seem to be as simple a feature as a checkbox under each tool to "Preserve Last Setting" or something to that effect.  Tiny detail, huge impact.  Anyone else agree?  I guarantee anyone who does extensive wedding editing would!
