Lightroom/ACR: preserve intra-whites contrast.

Lightroom/ACR (PV2012) does a great job at recovering detail in highlights, in general. It's one of it's most touted strengths. However, sometimes detail in whites suffers.

I would love if there was some way to preserve intra-whites contrast, for the sake of photos where it is a critical element.

Note: finessing the whites, exposure, and/or highlights can often be used to enhance intra-whites contrast, however it must be preserved before it can really be enhanced - PV2012 sometimes compresses white tones so much that they can not be spread back out without severe adverse consequences in the other tones in the image.

Work-around for the mean time:

Reduce whites (and/or exposure...) so white tones don't get so jammed up, then move the white-point in using the point curve (no need for curviness necessarily - often just moving the end-point in is sufficient).
