Can you upload an example to Dropbox etc.? I'd like to take a look at the actual metadata fields. Previous versions of LR had similar inconsistencies with image files missing some or all metadata date fields:

That sample image triggers a similar problem as described here:

According to Exiftool, the only relevant metadata fields are:
These represent when the last time any image-aware software modified the file.
LR is showing the EXIF/XMP:ModifyDate field in the Metadata pane as Default:CaptureDate, and it is using that value to sort thumbnails in Grid view. But it is showing the file system's create date of the file under the thumbnail.
This simple bug has been around since LR 3 at least.

I probably should have checked the EXIF myself, but anyway thanks for doing this. Good to know my files still contain the proper metadata.

Beware that if you edit the image in some other software (e.g. Photoshop), it can change the EXIF/XMP:ModifyDate to the current date and time, and you'll lose your intended capture date.
I checked, and LR doesn't change :ModifyDate if you change develop settings or metadata like keywords (though strictly according to the standards, it should).
So you might consider using Exiftool to copy all the EXIF:ModifyDate fields to EXIF:DateTimeOriginal.
