Lightroom 5: selecting other image without unselecting adjustment mask creates issue

Whenever I create a mask using say, the adjustment brush, if I don't click on "Done" (or unselect the adjustment brush) and select another picture in my collection, changing the levels (i.e. exposure) in this other image will have no effect whatsoever. I know I should click Done when I'm done modifying a mask, that being said, shouldn't the interface prevent changing image, warn me or something in this situation?

The adjustment brush works this way to support the workflow in which a customer moves between images making adjustment brush changes. In that workflow, you don't want to click "Done" or have it done for you, only to select the tool again when you move to the next image.

In the scenario you describe, any changes made to adjustment settings after switching to a different image will be applied to the first brush stroke you make on the new image.
