Lightroom 5: Import Panel Problems

I have notcied 2 problems with the import panel in LR5.

1. (This have been previously discussed in the LR forum): Thumbnail images are extremely slow to load (become visibly) ebven with very small file sizes and small numbers of images. Only blanck thumbnails appear for several seconds when scrolling through the thumbnails.

2. (I have not seen this discussed in the LR forum): When making a new destination folder for import; it does not appear in the folder list on the right side of the import panel until the panel is closed down and re-opened, at which point the images have to be reselcted. Given the thumbnail issue, this is doubly time consuming at the moment.

Has any one else noticed this issue?

Hi Stephen, I'm having exactly the second problem (LR5 running on Mac OS 10.8.4). New created import folder won't show up until you cancel import an re-open the import dialogue. I still have LR 4 installed and there everything works fine.
So probably a bug in LR5.

Stephen are you also running 10.8.4? Or Which Operating system are you working with?

Thanks Stephen,

for #2 -- Where are you asking the new folder to be created at? In the Picture folder? Or another folder?
If choosing pictures, what happens if you choose a folder that is not Pictures?

LR 5.2 RC did not solve the problem #2. It occurs only if I try to create a new folder in the import dialogue that is located on an external disk. My pictures folder is located on a WD My Book 2TB which is connected via Firewire to my iMac (OS 10.8.4). A new folder created within the pictures folder on the Macintosh HD shows up at once.

Another strange issue: if I try to delete photos in LR 5 (from the disk), a message says that photos can ́t be deleted via trash. Once you do some action within Finder on the external HD (move or delete a file), this message won ́t show up anymore. so it seems definitely an issue with external disks.

In LR 4 everything works fine as expected though.

Yes, I have to agree with this. As far as I can see nothing has changed for me in terms of the the problem I listed above, with LR5.2 RC.

I still do not see the new destination folder that I make appear until I close the import panel and re-open at. At that point, the new folder appears in the right hand pane. But it is not showing when I make it initially.

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit.
