The new Pentax K-3 camera started shipping a few weeks ago and already seems to be quite popular. Can you please add support for this new camera to Lightroom 5.3 .

Yes, we'll have support for the PEF raw files in the final release. (In the meantime you can shoot raw files in DNG format. Obviously this doesn't help you with any PEF images you've already shot -- you'll need to wait till the final version for that.)

Pentax used to have a software (OEM raw converter, w/ ISL's SilkyPix code inside) that was able to convert .PEF to .DNG... is it not the case now ?

I don't know in the case of the K-3. (I think the user would need the version of the software that is supplied in the box, since some aspects of PEF metadata changed with the K-3.)

Ricoh/Pentax did include SilkyPix-Digital Camera Utility v5 in the box with the K-3. Pentax DSLR's produce DNG files in camera, which I just prefer to take directly into to Lightroom.
I just wanted to call attention to the K-3 in hopes that it would not get overlooked in the Lightroom update since the K-3 was just released.

Absolutely, Charles. We'll make sure the K-3 will be covered (both PEF and DNG).

Oh yes please! I have been shooting with the k-3 for a week now and all files are PEF. I have since switched to DNGS after discovering I couldn't open them. But have 2,000 images PEF. All you can do at this point from what I have found is convert the PEFs to TIFs in Silkypix. Cant wait for the LR5 update for PEFs.

Will the upgrade also support the multi zone WB that is in the K-3? As I understand it is not supported in the DNGs now.

Could you confirm?

Hi Arne, my understanding is that the multi zone WB processing is only available in the in-camera JPEG processing.

Ordering stock has run out at Amazon and close to running out at BHPhoto on this popular model. I intend to buy a K3 shortly and very much appreciate Eric's commitment to update Lightroom on their DNG support for this model.

For other Pentax owners, i'd recommend just adopting DNG for future shots, I have several months back and have not regretted the decision.

But DNG is all I shoot. Until LR is updated for the K-3 LR cannot properly read the whole exif file or maximize the files. It does an adequate job right now but with full support we will be able to work more extensively with the files.
