Lightroom 4: Wrong advice in warning dialog "Set metadata on multiple photos"

There is a warning dialog "Set metadata on multiple photos" when one is about to change metadata in the metadata panel for more than the target photo.

The advice in this dialog is: "To apply changes to only the target photo, enable the 'show metadata for target photo only' item in the metadata menu".

This advice is wrong in many situations.

The option 'show metadata for target photo only' does not always influence whether or not data entered in the metadata panel is propagated to all selected photos. It does only so in a very specific situation: When in grid mode and auto sync ist turned OFF.

In other library modes (loupe, compare and survey), the option 'show metadata for target photo only' does not determine whether or not data is set for all selected photos. It is auto-sync which determines that. Nevertheless, the same warning dialog appears in that case. But in that case, 'show metadata for target photo only' only influences the display of the metadata panel (no "mixed" entries if activated, just the values of the target photo). The correct advice would be to switch auto-sync OFF instead.

For the special case 'grid mode' + auto-sync ON, the advice is wrong, too. The correct advice would be to switch auto-sync OFF and switch 'show metadata for target photo only' ON.

Note: The targeting logic of the metadata panel can be very confusing. I wrote about it in a little "rant" in a different thread: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh... (see my longer second reply, point #5). This confusion may be aggravated by the wrong advice in the warning dialog.

The message has remained from the times where there was not Auto Sync in Library. The text must be updated for Auto Sync too.
