I am working in windows 7 64 bit... with an ssd for main drive and a fast second drive... lightroom 4.1 still working slow... also crashes after editing few images... with the crash i see a big black horizontal bar almost until the midlle of the preview window...
my lightroom 3 running amazing fast... real fast...
is it a problem that i have both versions installed?
i hope you will find a solution about LR4... this lightroom version is amazing for post production... but until then i have to work with the LR3.

You should probably provide your platform information. Depending on the OS, a crash log can be available, which is invaluable.

Have you tried purging the ACR cache or recreating the previews?

A "bar" across the screen sounds like a hardware problem.

Image corruption and crash like that may indicate a low level driver issue. I'd make sure your video card driver is up to date. Determine what video card you have and go directly to the manufacturers website (nVidia or ATI/AMD) and download the latest driver.
