Lightroom 4 totally Non-functional

I just installed Lightroom on my Win 7 32-bit desktop. It asked if I wanted to use my existing Elements catalog. I said yes. From that point, Lightroom would not load, or rather, it loaded and was visible using Task Manager, but displayed no panels. I tried to launch it using its desktop shortcut and also using Windows Explorer with the same result. I uninstalled Lightroom and reinstalled it. Theis time no display of any panel (no catalog panel), but still running resident when viewed with Task Manager. I had major installation problems with Elements 10 when I installed it 3 weeks ago and spent 40 minutes chatting with tech support to get it operational. What kind of crap is Adobe foisting on the public? By the way, I am a retired programmer, for what that's worth when it comes to trying to debug this expensive junk.

Are you running real-time anti-virus protection? Can you open Lr from a new test account to see if it is the catalog stalling it.

Windows 7 has a way to sample a process to get a series of stack traces. Perhaps you can use that to find out what it is doing.

I created a new account and attempted to open Lightroom 4. Got the catalog panel and said to create a new catalog. Then tried to launch the program. Same problem. lightroom.exe is visible in Task Manager, but no panel is displayed.
