I am having trouble deleting files from my hard drive using Lightroom 4. I can only remove the file from Lightroom but not from the hard drive. Anyone having this problem? BTW, I have a 17" MacBook Pro and have used all other versions of Lightroom successfully.

Sounds like you're trying to delete images from a collection:

Is that the case?

No. I am not using Collections. I was always able to delete files this way in past versions of LR. Thanks for your question, but not using collections.

Does it give an error? or just not an option when you're deleting? If you can create a screen cap of the issue and link to it, it may help to debug.

I get the message: "The file named"........" could not be moved to the Trash folder." Please explain a screen cap....
Thanks.

Do you have permissions for your user name on this drive set for read only?

I've seen some weird stuff with permissions when a user account has been migrated from one system to another or Time Machine is in the mix. One way to completely rule out permissions irregularities would be to create a new Admin user account (as a quick test) and run Lightroom from the new user account to see if the problem persists.
