Lightroom: LR 4 Map is Blank (Case Sensitive File System)

I upgraded from LR3 to LR4 today and was excited to dive into the Map module. Unfortunately, the map seems to be blank. I have selected an image with GPS information and the reverse geocoding feature correctly looks up the location of the photo (Magdalena, New Mexico). This seems like a rendering bug.

I am on OS X 10.6.8.

Just to check, I installed LR4 onto another OS X 10.6.8 machine that had not previously had Lightroom on it and imported the same picture. The Map did work correctly on it. So, I tried re-installing LR4 on the original machine. Unfortunately, it still does not work. I tried creating a new catalog and backing up and then deleting all preferences. The map is still blank...

I am open to suggestions so long as they don't involve re-installing the OS, as I just did a fresh install yesterday on this machine and therefore highly doubt that will accomplish anything other than wasting my time.

I am open to all sorts of alternatives, including but not limited to: running dtrace to look at library calls, attaching XCode to debug (though I would assume all the objects have been stripped), or firing up a WebDialogs, WebEx/VNC/TeamViewer/etc server for a dev to pry around on it or debug with XCode. Of course a debuggable build would greatly help with this.

More defect info.

I created a new user on the system that is failing, started LR4, created a new catalog, imported the test photo, changed to Map module--still blank. Something on this particular system is causing the rendering failure.

So I figured what the heck, just to make sure, why don't I copy over the LR4 app from the system that is working. Still a blank map...

My next thought was that perhaps it was an issue with the non-accelerated graphics. So I disabled the graphics switching. Still a blank map...

Well, someone led me to the solution. However, I can't say that I am in the least bit pleased about it. Have fun re-installing your OS, which is what I am doing right now. What a way to spend a Friday. Thank Adobe.

Seriously, if I put out code that wouldn't work on a particular type of filesystem due to case sensitivity I think our customers would kill us and I would be so embarrassed I probably wouldn't even put up a fight. Its shameful really to not work correctly over something like this.

For anyone who is now having to restore their OS from Time Machine thanks to this ridiculousness with a case-sensitive file system, some good advice if things aren't working as you would like can be found here: http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting...

Specifically, I was having trouble getting connect back to my previous image and the info on this page helped out greatly: http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html

On a positive note, the Map module is now working.

I found a solution at http://forums.adobe.com/message/41951... comment 29 as referenced above by Lance. Whilst this topic was for MACs the solution also worked on my Win7 laptop.

I navigated to c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\macromedia\flash player and renamed the #security folder to #securityOLD. When I started Lightroom it create a new #security folder and I can now see the maps.

Sounds like a fault during installation. Perhaps Adobe will investigate.

For me work this solution
In Terminal, type:

cd /Applications/Adobe\ Photoshop\ Lightroom\ 4.app/Contents/Support/APE/adbeapecore.framework/Versions/A/Libraries
sudo ln -s WebKit.dylib Webkit.dylib

I took it there
