Lightroom 4 & 3: I`cant export web gallery due to missing raw files (error message: Original image file is missing: "D:\my pictures lr4\20101102_053_lr4\DSC_3359.NEF"). See image. I can open the file in the library or develope module without problem, the file exist. The jpegs are generated from the image cache but are of poor resolution and have no embedded icc profile data.

This problem also occured in lightroom 3 but by closing lightroom and starting up again and then do export, in most cases web export finished without error. This trick does not work with lightroom 4.

The above error does not occur with tiff or jpeg as image source.

I got this today as well. Export takes a very long time, then fails with this error when using raw Canon 5D-II files.

LR4, Win7-64bit. 24GB ram, dual x5660.

Thanks for the workaround about using something other than RAW - I exported the files as jpgs, reimported them then exported to web gallery.

2 hours of my life I won't get back.

Hi Jan, can you still reproduct the issue with LR 4.0 realease build [814577]?
So far as I know, this error tip only occur when the file had been renamed or moved to a different folder before exporting the web gallery.
After you get this error, please right click the missing file and click "Show in Explorer", to see if the selected file can be opened in windows explorer correctly; and please switch to develope module to see is there any tip about "the file is missing".

If you confirm that the file can be opened in explorer and there is not any tips in develope module like above, then the file does exist.
Could you let me know which layout style or template did you select when you got this error? And did you perform any operation before or during the exporting?

Hi Alan, Yes I can reproduce the error (missing images) with every NEF or DNG file, I have never seen the error you show in the tooltip. The LR 4 release build I use is the same as yours. See system info below:

Lightroom version: 4.0 [814577]
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium Edition
Version: 6.1 [7601]
Application architecture: x86
System architecture: x86
Physical processor count: 8
Processor speed: 2,9 GHz
Built-in memory: 3582,0 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 716,8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 185,5 MB (25,8%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 193,6 MB
Memory cache size: 63,9 MB
System DPI setting: 96 DPI
Desktop composition enabled: Yes
Displays: 1) 1920x1200

Application folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4
Library Path: D:\Users\janh\lr4catalog\lr4testcat_20120310\lr4testcat.lrcat
Settings Folder: C:\Users\janh\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom

To try to produce the error you describe I have done the following:

1) select images in library mode; 2 dng's and 1 nef and 2 tiffs
2) select web module; lr html template and export to folder on pc
3) result error; missing images for 2 dng's and 1 nef
4) back to library mode and left click dng file and then right click to show in explorer; the file is there!!!
5) develop module; no tooltip about missing file.

The missing images error happens with every web template I use; lr html, lr flash or simpleviewer pro. There is no operation before or during the export.

To avoid the error I do the following workaround: select the raw images and do a export as tiff and import the tiffs, next export them as web gallery to a folder on my pc

Hi Jan, thanks for providing the details, your info is really helpful.

I had more testing on this issue, and concluded that this error is related to the deep-nesting folder path which you used to store your original image file and LR catalog.
Could you help to try following steps to verify it again?
1. Create a new folder "D:\Photos" and copy the RAW images from "D:\my pictures lr4\20101102_053_lr4\" to "D:\Photos".
2. Create a new folder "D:\LRTest", and create a new catalog in this folder, and import the RAW images to this catalog.
3. Create a new folder "D:\WebGallery" and then export the RAW images as a web gallery to this folder.

If the error still occur in this way, please let me know.

Hi Alan, I did the steps you requested. I selected 3 nefs and 1 tiff and used the standard html template but the error still occur, see image.

I have done some experimenting with settings in the bios. When I disable hyperthreading the web building task is completed successful !?

So glad to hear that your issue is resolved, while the error cause is a little unexpected... Hyper Threading!!?

Another question is, after you disable HT, does this issue also fixed if you use your original folder path? ("D:\my pictures lr4\20101102_053_lr4\DSC_3359.NEF"
"D:\Users\janh\lr4catalog\lr4testcat_20120310\lr4testcat.lrcat")

I did not only disabled HT but also reduced the number of cores to two (i7 870 2.93Ghz). In this way I can export a web gallery over and over again without error, although very very very very very slow as mentioned in another thread. There is something wrong with the lightroom code and not with my computer.

The length of the path has nothing to do with this error.

LR 4.1 act the same way, there is no improvement in the web module.

For the moment I stay with LR 3.6.

I too have this issue. I'm being told that files are missing when exporting or uploading a Web Gallery, even though I've just imported them and can see them in the Library and Develop modules.

My images are from a Canon EOS5DMk2 and are in CR2 format. I'm running LR4 on a Vista 32bit quad-core PC.

I've not tried disabling HT through my BIOS, as I'm reluctant to configure my PC at this level.

Strangely of the 6 images I put in the Web Gallery and were reported as missing, after several restarts of LR4 only 4 are now reported as missing. Also when I use Explorer to look at the image files as they are being created I can see that initially the image files are great, with all the appropriate metadata attached. Then at some point all the metadata is wiped from the files, but only the 4 that LR4 then indicates are missing. So in my opinion LR4 is able to build the image files correctly, but then something in the process goes wrong which causes the image files to be overwritten, which LR4 interprets as being due to a missing source file.

Hi Iain, what you describe I also noticed. Initially in the web building proces the image files are there with metadata and of good quality but later in the proces are overwritten with one of lower quality and no metadata.

I see at the first message the label solved??? please remove. This issue is not solved there is only a workaround with tiff or jpeg.

Jan, I can confirm that if I export TIFFs from my original images, and then construct a web gallery from the TIFFs, not from the CR2s, then LR4 has no problem at all generating it. (It's slow, but that is covered elsewhere.) This seems to reinforce the impression that it is RAW files that are critical to the problem.
