Lightroom 4 has stopped saving changes to catalog

This started happening sporadically, then once every two times I launched Lightroom, and now it's happening all the time.

I will open up Lightroom, import photos, tag them, classify them, edit them, etc. When I exit LR I have it setup to always make a backup and to verify the catalog's integrity - it has never complained and the backups are regularly made.

The problem is that the next time I open LR, all changes from the previous session have been completely lost (well, not the photo RAW files themselves, obvously; those are still where LR place them upon import). These changes are not in the main catalog or in the corresponding backup.

It sounds like you are opening up a previous backup catalogue, not the catalogue you have made the most recent changes to.

Nope. I'm opening the regular catalog.

The only reason I mentioned backups, was because at one point in my frustration I did go to the backups and see if changes were saves there - and it didn't help.

Where is the catalogue? Is it on a volume mounted remotely?
