Lightroom: LR4 hangs when loading very large images

Lightroom 4 sometimes hangs when loading very large images, such as 4,000 dpi scans of medium format film from a Nikon scanner. Those are big files, so I understand 30+ seconds to load from disk and process. But about 1 time in 3, LR hangs and never comes back. The Windows title bar states Lightroom is "Not Responding." Have to kill the app from the OS, and restart. That same image may load on the next try without difficulty. Don't recall this happening ever with LR 3.6.

Hi Mark, would it be possible to post a file that exhibits this behavior? (dropbox or Adobe SendNow) Thanks.

Jeffrey - Thanks. Hmmm...not sure how to send a 700 MB file. SendNow limits file size unless I subscribe to the premium subscription. Not familiar with dropbox, but will research the topic. If I figure it out, is there an e-mail ID that should tag as the recipient?

I have had the same problem with Lightroom 4 hanging up when I initially open an image. I had the same problem with Lightroom 3.6 but to a lesser degree. I shot about 200 images of a baseball game in JPEG fine and found that when I initially opened up the image, I had to wait 30-60 seconds for the "Not responding" message to go away. I also get a "Not responding" message if I double click on a slider bar or move too quickly between slider bars. Additionally, the color and luminance slider bars hang up on #1 and then jump ahead to where the cursor is. I have CS5 on the same computer and have had no problems with it or any other program on the computer hanging up. I have a dedicated 1T hard drive exclusively for my images and 4 gigs of RAM.
