Lightroom: LR4 copy and paste settings don't work

When I copy settings from one processed image, and then try to paste those settings into another image, 50% of the time nothing happens. The thumbnail in the filmstrip shows that there has been a setting change, indicated by the icon in the lower right corner, but neither the thumbnail nor the image itself shows any change.

I have to reset the image and then paste the settings in again in order to see any actual change.

Windows 7, 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 560

[I posted this earlier as a question, and got no response, now I'm reposting at a problem]

Support people? Adobe - I didn't think there was a black mark on your record until I've tried to report this as a bug and get sent to one forum or another. Your customer service is very convoluted.

Works here on a similar system and I haven't heard much about this from others. That said, I am not surprised you aren't seeing much action.

Have you tried: A reinstall? A preference file rebuild?

Are you copy and pasting through the Settings menu in Develop or using shortcut keys?

Okay, although my original problem still exists, after rebuilding the preference file, my workflow runs much smoother that I don't have to paste-reset-paste the development settings since the keyboard shortcut appears to be working properly.

I have not yet tried a reinstall. I've some photos I've been trying to process to get to client, and I've powered half-way through them, so I'm determined to just finish this set first.

I'll try the preference file rebuild now.

And I've been using the copy/paste through the 'right click' pop-up menu. If I use the CTRL+SHIFT+V, I still have to do it twice before the settings will paste in, but I don't have to reset the image settings in between those times like I do with the right-click approach.

Incidentally, I have been experiencing sluggishness when I have the 2nd monitor option in use, but I've just stopped using the second monitor while I finish this one project. Whether that means there may be a relation or not, just throwing that out there as well...

Sluggishness with second monitor is known issue. It will be fixed in a build released later this week: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

Ben, a QE from LR team, also suggested throwing out and rebuilding your previews (as a last resort troubleshooting step).

Thanks for commenting, Jeff. It was getting super frustrating (combining the issue with not feeling like I couldn't find anyone that could help). Upon trashing the preference file and letting LR rebuild it, the keyboard shortcut now works right away --- so far --- but the mouse right-click still doesn't work properly.

I rebuilt the preference file, now the only change is the CTRL+SHIFT+V works every time to paste in the settings, but using the mouse still has no effect the first time in pasting the settings.

(I copied the settings using the mouse right-click)

Me too. Sometime it pastes only part of the settings and then when I try again it gets it. This is really buggy behavior and I've messed up some photos and had to redo downstream processing because of it.

I have sometimes this problem too. Specially when I click "Previous" button. In the history list appears as Pasted Previous Settings but nothing is changed in the sliders... In these cases I have a little but strange trick: to hold a long click in the buttons. It works for me but it is very strange...

This happens to me as well, exactly as originally stated. Pasting settings via the mouse works only about half the time. Ctrl-Shift-V appears to function correctly every time.

I'm on Lightroom 5.3 Build 938183

I think the problem occurs when you paste before LR has the image fully loaded into develop. It also does the same in LR5. If you wait a little longer after switching to the new image it seems to always work OK. Still a bit of a nuisance.

That makes sense, thanks David. Ctrl-Shift-V could be queuing it up (or something) so that the paste is performed after the image is fully loaded, which is why it seems to work every time. I'll wait a bit after the switch if I'm using the mouse, thanks.

It's 2015 and using LR CC and this is still happening. Paste Settings on Develop Module fails 90% of the time. Using the latest iMac and the latest Adobe CC bundle. Extremely frustrating.

I finally figured out that you need to wait for a bit for the full image to be loaded before pasting. Not obvious or user friendly, but works much more consistently.

One way I got sync to work;

Select the photo you are copying settings from and press cmd + C.

While still having that picture selected, select the other photos you want the attributes copied to and press "Sync..."

I found that if I didn't have the (let's call it source) source picture selected along with the unedited photos, no edits were ever transferred across. I hope this helps.

Sync has always worked as expected for me. It's just copy and paste settings that requires some care to make sure the files are fully loaded first.
