Lightroom: LR4 image locations lost with catalog conversion

I bought the LR 4 CD, installed it - (Win Prof 64, 12GB RAM, 3.2GHz Dell). But upgrading my principal catalog from LR 3 to LR 4 assigned wrong drives, and now 152,000 images (all) are now "lost." When no previews or folders showed up I clicked on some question marks. The former path showed files used to be on drive E: (impossible - my DVD drive), when nearly all of my image originals have been on J: and some on K: for over a year. LR 4 found them when I repointed the path to I: but this works only a few files at a time. I can't go after 150k files one at a time.

All drives were connected and operational in LR 3. Had just backed up this catalog with an OK integrity check. Computer and drives just completed a functional test - OK. The catalog is large - 2.7 GB. Thank goodness LR 3 still works with it. This has to be a bug - I tried it twice with same results.

I teach LR and class begins next week - this is a bad start for me, students, and Adobe. Please help asap, thanks.

To work around this problem, use these steps to quickly update the locations of all the folders to the correct drive:

1. In the Folders pane on the left-hande side, expand the E drive to show the folders in E.

2. Right-click a top-most folder and do Show Parent.

3. Keep doing step 2 until you see a root folder called "E:".

4. Right-click that root folder and do Update Folder Location.
