Everytime I back up Lightroom 4.1, Memeo Instant Backup Client, for my Seagate hard drive backup, closes.

I run 64 bit Windows 7 on a Dell XPS8300, which has a Seagate hard disk.

Sounds like a race condition on a file or files that the third-party and Lightroom are trying to access. My guess is that Memeo is triggered on changed files, and wants to grab them before the change is complete. This is a very common problem with real-time backup processes.

Remember that Lightroom owns those files, so any process that wants to access them should know how to ask nicely and handle collisions. Even Apple's Time Machine use to interact poorly with open and changing files controlled by Lightroom. They have since fixed that problem.

Memeo will have to be adjusted or updated to behave more appropriately.

I am running 64 bit Windows 7 on a Dell XPS8300 with a 1.5TB Seagate hard disk and a 2TB Seagate Deskflex backup. Since upgrading to Lightroom 4.0, the Memeo backup program says that there is a problem and has to close when Lightroom backs itself up on exit.

Win7 64Bit, 24GB RAM, i7-980x, LR 4.1:

I'm running Acronis True Image Home 2012 NonStop Backup on the drive where I direct LR 4.1 catalog backups to. I notice sporadic (but frequent) hangs during LR 4.1's catalog backup, stalling at some point in the backup phase, with a *.lrcat and a *.lrcat-journal file present in the backup directory. To get out of the hang, I have to shut down and hard power off the system. The Lightroom task cannot be killed by any other means. The catalog is about 500MB in size.

After doing some testing I found out that de-activating ATIH NonStop Backup makes the problem disappear. There seems to be some conflict between ATIH NonStop Backup and LR's backup procedure.

Is anybody else experiencing a similar problem, and how could I debug the problem any further? Switching off ATIH NonStop Backup is not an option for me.

These are similar symptoms as reported by Wayne Christensen in this thread.

Beat

P.S: LR3.6 doesn't show the problem in the identical environment.

Symptoms exactly the same as Beat.

Also recently started running ATIH NonStop Backup - pause ATIH and Lightroom 4.1 now backs-up just fine.

Interestingly, Lightroom 4.1 would sometimes backup, sometimes not, with ATIH running. Anyway, shouldn't worry about the details, I have a solution to the problem.

You guys have made me a very happy man!
