Lightroom 3: How to backup and restore development defaults and lens profile defaults?

Lightroom stores the default development settings in the user's application data folder in Adobe\CameraRaw\Defaults in files named "Default_Hex-String.xmp". Similarly, the defaults for the lens profiles are stored in Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfileDefaults in files named "LensDefault_Hex-String.xmp".

Question: It is safe to just backup these files along with the other lightroom settings, and simply restore them later in the same folders e.g. on a new computer? Does the hex-string have a specific meaning (some ID referenced by other files or the LR-catalog), or is it just a "random" string generated for unique file names?

Additional question: Is it true that these settings in Adobe\CameraRaw\... are shared by all installed ACRs, even if they belong to different products (LR, PS...) or have different versions? I tested PS CS4 (ACR 5.7) and LR 3.4.1: Saved some noise reduction settings in LR as defaults, and when saving the defaults in PS, it resets the ACR-6-specifiy noise settings for detail and contrast to adobe defaults. So it seems that one must be careful with these settings?

P.S. As far as I know, this is not explained in the LR manual.

*polite bump*

I understand that Adobe employees might have been busy with LR4 a lot in the last 6 months ;-) ... but I really would like to know some answers to the questions above. Thanks in advance... :-)

In addition, the following question: Is there a definitive list of settings that are not stored under the user's application data under Adobe\Lightroom (or at the catalog, if so configured), but instead under Adobe\CameraRaw? As far as I know (for LR3), these are:
- Adobe\CameraRaw\Defaults (see original post, plus Preferences.xmp for some global ACR settings)
- Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfileDefaults (see original post)
- Adobe\CameraRaw\Curves (saved tone curves)
- Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0 (additional lens profiles of the user)

To extend my questions from the original post: Can the Preferences.xmp and the saved tone curves simply be backed up and later restored to the same folder when setting up a new computer or user? Edit: Preferences.xmp seems to be problematic because it contains the absolute path of the ACR cache.

As it seems, the following are present, but do not contain data that need to be backed up:
- Adobe\CameraRaw\LocalCorrections
- Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings
