We are a public college digital photo lab using Lightroom 3 on 10.8.6 iMacs. This semester, a new problem has arisen. We have updated PCs around campus to Windows 7. Many of our students bought new laptops with Win 7 on them as well. Students are working from a Lightroom catalog created on their personal portable hard drives (Formatted FAT32). Those who used a Win 7 platform come into our lab only to have their files missing because the pathway is still containing the letter of the drive on the PC where they imported from (of course during the import they are importing to a pictures folder on the portable drive next to the catalog). This issue is happening the other way around as well. If they import into their catalog while working on an iMac, when they open the catalog on their Win7 computer, Lightroom can't find the files/folder because the pathword "volumes" is still part of the pathway even though the external drive is now plugged into a "E" drive, for instance. With pain and suffering, and work every time you move from a Win7 PC to an iMac or vice versa, the files/folders can be found but we are interested in a more practical fix. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
