This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Lightroom: LR4 Beta: Ability to create and save book template pages in the Print Module

Don't do any kludges with excursion to Adobe illustrator for custom book templates, but:

Empower the print module / custom package
* to put any text box there, which can be mapped to any metadata field.
Enable text formatting options like currently (LR4b#1) in the book module.

* Offer the functionality to create a mirrored template along the vertical axis to cater for left & right pages.

* Then enable, e.g. via right-click from the template browser panel in print module,
to export the print template as book template, either as single page or double-spread.

[Not part of this idea, but I consider it a well achieved feature if the other great ideas around the topic are implemented as well:
*about outer+inner borders (http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...,
*opacity for cells (http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...)
*full text editor (http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...]

I think the Print Module idea above to empower the Book Module is fantastic. It has my full support. I really want to use the Print Module and the Book Module. Right now I can us neither. What a shame when there is so much potential.

Also, thanks for collecting the related links.

Great idea.

Heck, make all the text formatting capabilities accessible in the Slideshow module too! It's incredible that one module has one capability, another has different capabilities (or none at all).

I would like the facility to be able to use the Book module for a wedding preview album, showing 4 images per page.

However, I need to indicate the number of each image on or around each photograph. Allowing the client to be able to identify the image for ordering.

This would need to be applied automatically similar to the system used in the slideshow module

I've been using the print module to create/prototype custom book templates since Lightroom 3. It works very well.

I create the layouts based on the book size I will have printed and then add pictures as needed.

In the end, I end up with the layout I want, minus the text. I then usually add the text in another program like Indesign or the specific book making software: Blurb, Adorama, etc.

It would make a lot of sense to be able to save the layouts created in the print module as templates in the Book module.

There is already the ability to create a saved print.. why not also to create a saved book template?

Hoping this request gets some consideration. Thanks.

As there is absolutely nothing about this implemented in LR5-beta I do despair of Adobe.

They simply do not care about any module of LR other than Develop.

I would be happy to pay a fair amount for a good refurbishment of Print + Book + Slideshow module.
Also appreciated if that would be optional upgrade scope.

Hi Cornelia,
quick question: I tried your idea - but the Export dialogue is greyed out. What do I miss?
Thanks!

2nd update: I assume the print template needs to be saved under the template folder for Lightroom.

However, a last step seems to be missing as I cannot see the template in the Book Module (LR has been restarted). Can anyone help, please?

The answer is very simple: my suggestion never made it beyond.
It has not been adopted by Adobe.
So no wonder you miss the last step.

This feature would be amazing if it could work. Designing a page layout for use in the book module would be incredibly intuitive as well! Adobe, please let us design our own page templates for use in the book module!!
