Lightroom: Error Opening Catalog: MyImage_150.jpg.lrcat

Lightroom 3 is not opening after trying to import a .JPG file a couple weeks ago. Lightroom stalls and the following error message is in a speparate box on the screen: Lightroom - Opening Catelog: RyanStewe_150.jpg.lrcat. A technician who looked at the computer indicated that it appears lightroom 3 is trying to boot up a catalog that does not exist or is not corrrect. Help!!!

I can confirm that deleting the preferences file worked with Steve's issue. We then opened the backup catalog from right before the problem occurred (usually stored in the Pictures/Lightroom/Backups folder). We copied it and the xxxpreviews.lrdata file into the Lightroom folder, so that the main catalog is in the proper location.
