Lightroom wont recognize my photos

I am new to the Lightroom - Photoshop world and have been for the most part enjoying playing around with photography and editing my photos. I have searched the internet for answersto my questions but I just find tutorials on how Lightroom works but not how to troubleshoot.

I'm trying to import 30 photos into Lightroom (photos are in JPEG and not RAW)
Here is exactly what I'm doing:
Open Lightroom -- Click on Folders tab (+) -- Click add folder -- I select the folder that I want from my desktop.... then it opens the "All Photos" grid and all my 30 photos are there but they are grayed out except for 6 photos. I have no idea why it isn't recognizing my other images, I thought it was because of the JPEG - RAW FILE option that I checked off in the preferences but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Any suggestions would help this noobie so much!
Also if anyone knows of a really good Lightroom for beginners tutorial, I'd love to know who you suggest. I can't find one that speaks to me.

Thank you in advance!

The usual reason why images are 'grayed-out' in the import dialog is that they already have been imported into your catalog and Lightroom is preventing their duplication.

Have you searched to make sure that image (or a duplicate of that image) hasn't already been imported?

Thank you for your answer it really makes sense and that's probably what my issue is.... Now with that answer comes a whole other issue... I had chosen the 30 photos from a huge unorganized messy desktop...In multiple different folders....Is there a way I can get lightroom to forget that it used to be in different folders and to now recognize it from the folder I created for these images? Not sure if I make sense here, or if you understand what I mean.... There's just no way for me to find the images from where they have been imported the first time. I guess i'm asking if Lightroom has a "reset" button.

In your Library Panel, Grid View, either locate the file visually, or search for it by file name. Right Click on the picture and it will give you the option of showing the photo's location either in the Folders panel or in Explorer/Finder.

It is very problematic to have the same photo in many locations on your drive. It creates confusion and wasted space and, as you see, Lightroom only allows an identical photo to appear once!

It sounds like you may need some file cleanup.
