Hi there,

Lightroom CC 2015.8 is nearly unusable with the new MacBook Pro 15" 2016 model with maxed-out configuration (16GB Ram / 460 4GB GPU / 2.9 CPU). Most actions take anywhere from 1-3 seconds—most notable with brush tool and trying to move points on the curve.

I'm coming from a 2013 MacBook Air with a very simple discrete graphics card that ran the same photos much, much smoother. I also did a side-by-side comparison with a 2014 MacBook Pro 15" and it ran the same photos with ease.

I've tried updating to 10.12.2 beta, resetting NVRAM(PRAM) and SMC to no avail. No other apps running. I have a large amount of cache set. I've gone through the performance tips improvement on Adobe's website.

I've take the MacBook to the Apple store and they found nothing wrong other than saying it's a software issue. We confirmed this by booting into Safe-Mode and launched Lightroom; it ran MUCH faster and felt as expected (and that's even without graphics drivers running).

There are several other reports, two you can find here:

If you go to Preferences>Performance and uncheck the GPU option, does performance in these areas improve? remain the same? degrade?

It improves. Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

Thanks for the information.  GPU implementation in Lightroom is in its early implementation. The current implementation is designed around making the screen refresh more quickly when moving sliders so that there isn't any lag.  Have the GPU option checked makes this happen.

However GPU is a drag on other tasks: Spot Healing Brush and the moving from Image to Image being two examples.  Your own workflow needs will likely dictate which position you want the switch.

Interesting. Well that's good to know, how it works. Thanks Rikk.

Hi I have the same issue (slow Lightroom and worst is that the panels black out . It seems to work better when I uncheck the GPU option. I run the new MacBook Pro 13" with OS X 10.12.3 .

The panel blackout is a know issue that should be corrected in the next update.

H'm, if Lightroom runs much faster in safe mode, doesn't that suggest that the problem is somewhere else, namely in some third party utility or driver that gets loaded in normal mode but not in safe mode? Im thinking graphic drivers in particular.

grasse, have you updated to the final release of macOS 10.12.2? If not, please do that and let me know if you're still having issue. If you're still having problems, it may help if we could see your Lightroom System Info. Launch Lightroom, and select Help > System Info... and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Yes. I'm now actually on 10.12.3 as of today; the issue persists.

Wanted to chime in here as this seems related to the issue I've been having.  When switching modules or showing/hiding side panels, I get black sections in the UI.  When I turn off GPU acceleration it responds normally.  I don't notice a change in the slider performance but image previewing is significantly slower with GPU on.

I found the exact same issues and I am very very unhappy with the performance. I spent hours on the support phone with apple and in the Apple Store. HW seems to be completely OK - So it is an Adobe Issue. Adobe might need to go deep into the SW and change of architecture to get Lightroom rocking again. I actually started using Capture 1 Pro 10 and it is super fast. Sorry Adobe. I miss Lightroom dearly - but I just can not work like this. Please fix it - soon!!!

Same here.  I feel like it was less of a problem for the past couple weeks for me but I'm getting the black out again.  Not sure if its related to a software update or not.  I had been running with the GPU disabled since recognizing the problem a couple months ago.  It seems to work well for a little while (could be hours or days) then blacks out again.  Decided to turn the GPU back on just now to see if there's any change.
