I have just spent an hour and a half on hold with customer service trying to solve this problem. I cannot start Lightroom. I had to restart the computer because Lightroom was not responding. When I did I repeatedly get this message: "The Lightroom catalog named "Lightroom Catalog-2" cannot be opened because another application already has it opened.Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch."There is no ther application running. I shut down the computer twice and started up again, then tried launching Lightroom with nothing else opened but still get the same message. Can you please direct me to where I can get help with this? I tried the online help but got nothing in response related to this and when I try to contact someone through the web I end up back at the original help page repeatedly. Very frustrating.Thank for help.

Did you try signing out of adobe creative cloud and signing back in or if your on an Apple device, force quit everything opened like maybe photoshop or unplug any external hard drives? Just throwing out some random ideas?

Thanks for responding, Jodi. I can try that.  When this happened, I had been signed out somehow, I did not do it myself.  So I signed back in and then the problem popped up. I think I will have to delete Lightroom and reinstall but I am waiting to see if there is another solution before doing that.  In the meantime I have another program to bring my images into Photoshop so can keep working.

Is this Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC? For Classic, this exact error is in the Adobe Help and easily found with a web search.

Lightroom Classic CC. Thanks, that looks like it should do it. Can’t try it until later but I’ll report back. Funny that when I asked this through the Adobe Help Page it did not show.

This can happen with an abnormal shutdown of Lightroom. In the folder where your catalog is stored is a file called “yourcatalogname”.LOCK. Rename this file and Lightroom should be able to open normally.

What should you rename to his file to? I think you can just delete the LOCK file, right?

Rename is always safer than delete. In most cases the file can be deleted, yes. I always recommend making sure Lightroom restarts before deleting old lock files.

Many thanks, Rikk and David for your help with this.  It worked just as advertised and my copy of Lightroom Classic CC is up and running.  I appreciate your assistance.
