lightroom unable to detect external hard drive

Hi I have been importing images and working on them in Lightroom 5, from external hard drives. But now when I open any catalog, lightroom will not detect one or two of my hard drives. The hard drives are working fine. I can import the raw images from the hard drives again into lightroom but all work previously done on the files is lost.
I would really like to find a way for the external hard drives to appear in Lightroom again, with all the lightroom alterations that were previously done to still be there.

Please help! I could be looking at having to redo thousands of raw images.

I would also like to add that if I go to import/add images, all of the external hard drives are visible

Hi Shelagh,

The Lightroom folders panel only displays drives that contain photos you have imported. It sounds like you are using multiple catalogs. Is it possible that you imported from your external drives in one catalog, and are looking for them in another?

The fact that Lightroom is allowing you to import the images would suggest you do not already have the images imported into the catalog you currently have open - otherwise, it would notice them as duplicates and not re-import.
