I think it ́s mandatory to provide cloud synchronization for our apps, like lightroom, bridge, etc. In order to use google drive (or other cloud storage services) as an external drive. Since you can rent 10TB of storage for less than 10€ a month, the cloud storage is the present of storage. What do you think about that?

Agreed, software manufacturers need to get with the program. Until then I use a kind of  blended solution. Smart previews are kept on my local machine and the real images are kept on the external cloud drive. It's not a perfect workaround, but it gets me by because I don't use LR as a tool for business.

Victoria Brampton has a good article in her blog on using smart previews.

For $175AU per year rental, plus the poor speed and high cost of my internet connection – cloud storage is not the answer for me. As Google Drive and DropBox both use a local folder on a local drive to sync to the cloud using their proprietary system software, I am wondering why Adobe would bother (unless it was an Adobe cloud storage service)?
